Special issue on

"Image and Video Retrieval: Theory and Applications"

Introduction

Image and Video retrieval have now reached a state where successful techniques and applications start flourishing and technologies for retrieving multimedia content enable new applications and services for both commercial and personal end users. While existing techniques already provide promising results, new challenges arise in improving scalability, dealing with social media, combining multimodal content and linking with web, for example. The aim of this special issue is to provide an overview of current research in the area of image and video retrieval targeting principles, models and applications oriented papers.

Topics

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics for audio and video
  • Semantic retrieval of images and video
  • Learning and relevance feedback in image/video retrieval
  • Affective/Emotional interaction or interfaces for image/video retrieval
  • High performance image/video indexing algorithms
  • Community-based image and video management
  • Media in post-production and broadcasting
  • Distributed Media on the Web
  • Navigation and browsing of image and video collections
Important Dates
  • Submission of papers: 15 December 2009
  • Submission of final accepted papers: 15 June 2010
  • Publication of special issue: Fall 2010
Submissions

All the papers should be full journal length versions and follow the guidelines set out by Multimedia Tools and Applications. Submissions should be uploaded to the MTAP online editorial management system choosing “Image and Video Retrieval: Theory and Ap” as article type no later than December 15, 2009.
